Frequently Asked Questions:
How did I get started drawing?
Haha. Actually, I started writing first, I think. I was helping my mom clean out some old scrapbook bins and found a bunch of stories I created for class projects between 3rd and fourth grade. Arguably, they had to have pictures drawn too, but my focus was the story until fifth grade, I think. I remember there was a story project where for the first time my focus shifted to the illustrations. After that mom signed me up for a intro to drawing class, and it built up from there.
Do I draw traditionally or digitally?
Short answer: both. Long answer, I prefer drawing the old fashioned way and scanning in the line art when I color digitally. This method works best for me, but I do practice drawing digitally as well, as it saves time sometimes with client work.
What is my favorite anime?
Agh. Don’t make me pick one. I grew up in the era of 90’s poorly dubbed kid’s shows and anime scarcity– so I have my nostalgia faves like Record of Lodoss, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, and DBZ– the anime from that era that have stuck with me are Armitage, Gundam Wing, Escaflowne, and Tenchi Muyo! I am a pretty big Ghost in the Shell, Rumiko Takahashi, and Yuu Watase fan– as well as CLAMP. Post 2000, anime gained a lot of traction in MSM and I’ve found myself falling in love again recently with the 2010’s selection– shows like Soul Eater, Attack on Titan, Black Butler– omg. I just love anime. Everything from epic fantasy to the existential to the silly. I’ll even watch shoujo stories when the mood strikes.
